Father's Day 2016

What a fantastic Father's Day it was! We parked at Grouse Ridge Campground in the Sierras and backpacked out to Island Lake. Actually there is still quite a bit of snow in the back country so we didn't drive to the campground. But we nailed the weather perfectly. We encountered a few parties coming out that were none-too-happy after having to endure an overnight rainstorm mostly unprepared. We started at 7,200 ft. Total hiking stats were about  7 miles round trip and 700 vertical ft. A few bug bites, no blisters or sunburns, and lots of smiles!

Bear bait or bear repellent? You decide...

Jett; not long before he tried to slice his finger off and end the trip real early.

Actually, she has a warm heart of gold.

The key to happy backpacking kids is LOTS OF SNACKS!

My money says that's the "island" in Island Lake

Ace taking a well deserved nap. He was an outstanding trail dog! I'll have him for a back country companion anytime.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

They were like Hobbits. Two breakfasts on this morning.

Eh, uh, I don't think we're going to swim to the island afterall...BRRRRR!!!
