Samantha's First Camping Trip

We spent three days camping on the shore of Union Valley Lake; approximately 4,800 ft up into the Sierra. The snowy background is the western border of Desolation Wilderness.

Our Friends Sean and Cyndi drove all the way up from Las Vegas; for this was no ordinary camping trip. We were there for a purpose, and that purpose was to pick Boletus edulis; which are also know as porcini mushrooms.

It was a good crowd made of people from many walks of life. The fabric that wove all together was a love of wild mushroom hunting, a culinary background and a gourmet palate . If I described each of the many divine meals we prepared each day, you would not believe me.

Though I'll never get rid of my lightweight backpacking tents, I have a feeling we'll be spending a lot more time sleeping on a double wide air mattress in the newly acquired Taj Mahal; at least until Samantha is old enough to carry her own gear into the back country.

I think Samantha likes the Taj Mahal, too.
